Sgt. Scag

New Haven, CT

Sgt. Scag, originally known as Sgt. Scagnetti, is a ska/punk band that emerged in the late 1990s in Connecticut. They became a notable presence in the Northeast ska/punk scene, evolving from a ska-pop style to a more intense and frenetic sound. Their live performances were renowned for their unpredictability and energy, often involving unique audience interactions, such as distributing plastic toy swords for crowd reenactments.

The band’s lyrics often tackled themes like dysfunctional parenting and revenge fantasies, resonating with audiences and becoming anthems in teen centers. After an 18-year hiatus starting in the early 2000s, Sgt. Scag reunited in 2018 to perform at the Supernova International Ska Festival. This reunion sparked a renewed commitment to creating and performing music, leading them to actively write and record new material addressing topics such as nostalgia and societal observations. In 2021, they released a split EP with Hans Gruber and the Die Hards, featuring the track “Cultination.” This song showcased their continued relevance and musical evolution. Building on this momentum, Sgt. Scag released their first full-length album since 1999, titled “At Least More Than Half-Way Dead,” in September 2023 under Ska Punk International Records. The album comprises 11 tracks that blend their signature ska/punk sound with reflections on contemporary issues and personal experiences. As of 2025, Sgt. Scag remains active in the music scene, performing at various venues and festivals. Their enduring presence and dynamic performances continue to captivate audiences, solidifying their legacy in the ska/punk genre.
